Geronimo was away on a trading trip in 1851.
The Mexican soldiers led by Colonel Carroasco attacked Geronimo’s camp, killed his wife, their three children and mother.
So according to Apache tradition he burnt all his belongings.
Heading into the forest he claimed he heard a voice that told him no gun will kill him.
Geronimo went to war against the Mexicans. He was wounded but continued fighting.
The frightened Mexicans would call out Saint Gerome and that is how he was given the name Geronimo. His real name is Goyahkla.
This is why the song is called Geronimo-No Silver Bullet 1829---1909
